Social Recreation
Watkins VITAL Care Program strives to bring joy and teach new leisure skills to each Participant. Each day is filled with some type of leisure activity, such as bowling, hiking, visiting museums, gardening, soccer, taking a walk to get a cup of coffee, or watching a movie. Staff take the time to discover each Participant’s individual preferences and enjoyments and strive to incorporate these into their weekly activities.
Vocational and Volunteer Support
Each day, Participants practice and improve their vocational skills using thoughtfully designed job activities within a structured and predictable environment. Participants are then taught to generalize these skills in a real-world scenario. Additionally, Watkins VITAL Care Program believes in the importance of giving back to our community through volunteer work. The vocational skills Participants have practiced and developed on-site will also allow them to participate fully in these volunteer jobs. Each week we spend time volunteering for other organizations including those that help the homeless, children in foster care, and delivery of food boxes and PPE to families in need.
Community Integration
All individuals are entitled to have access to the community and its many venues of shopping, museums, eating out, and leisure activities. Daily community integration allows Participants access to volunteer jobs, learning activities, socialization with typical adults, and physical exercise. We also believe that by providing more opportunities for our community to interact with adults with disabilities, the less stigma there will be surrounding people who look or act in different ways.
Independent Life Skills
Independent and life skills are critical for all adults and these are addressed as needed. These skills can range from grooming skills to learning how to do laundry to going grocery shopping. We recognize that the more independent an adult Participant can be, the better quality of life they will have.
Behavioral Support
Behavior consultation will be consistently available as needed within the Participant’s day of activities and events. Watkins VITAL Care Program has created a consistent, safe, and positive environment. We seek to find what motivates each individual Participant so staff may encourage and guide them to more positive and appropriate behavioral interactions. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is readily available and many direct staff are Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).
